Professional Painting Solutions
Paint changes a house more completely than almost any other work at similar cost, and it protects the material underneath. We settle color, sheen, and product with you rather than leaving those decisions to chance.
Pasadena asks more of a painting contractor than most cities in the region, because so much of its housing stock is genuinely old and genuinely detailed. Craftsman bungalows through Bungalow Heaven and the surrounding neighborhoods carry wood siding, exposed rafter tails, decorative brackets, and multi-light windows. None of that is fast to paint properly. Wood siding on a century-old house has usually been coated many times, and where the existing film is lifting, the honest answer is scraping back to sound material rather than adding another layer over failure. Redwood and cedar, both common here, also bleed tannin through latex primer, so a stain-blocking primer is necessary if you want the finish to stay the color you chose.
Two further conditions apply locally. Properties within Pasadena’s landmark and historic districts may be subject to design review affecting exterior color, and confirming that before you commit to a scheme saves considerable trouble. Separately, homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint, and federal rules govern how those surfaces may be sanded or scraped. On a Craftsman with decades of paint layers, that is not a hypothetical.
Interior work is more conventional, though older plaster walls behave differently from drywall and need repairing accordingly. We select sheen room by room: flat for ceilings and forgiving wall surfaces, eggshell for living areas, satin or semi-gloss for kitchens, baths, and the substantial trim these houses tend to have.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a painting project take?
What areas do you serve?
MT Improvement works throughout Pasadena and the surrounding San Gabriel Valley communities, along with greater Los Angeles, Orange County, and the San Fernando Valley. Altadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, and Eagle Rock are all within our regular range.
Do you work with Korean-speaking homeowners?
Yes. If you would rather discuss your painting project in Korean, our team speaks it and is glad to work that way. A Korean-speaking painting contractor means nothing gets lost between the first estimate and the last coat. On older Pasadena homes, where scope questions around repair, replacement, and preparation carry real cost implications, being able to work through those specifics precisely is worth a great deal.
Do you help with color selection?
Yes. At MT Improvement, we walk you through color and finish options that suit your style and your space, and we are glad to answer questions throughout. For period homes we can also work within historically appropriate palettes if that is your preference, and we recommend confirming any exterior scheme against your district’s requirements before purchase. Sample on the actual wall as well, since a color reads differently against wood siding than it does against stucco.
